Trade names and synonyms
Lamprologus sexfasciatus, Golden sexfasciatus, Blue sexfasciatus.
Size and appearance
Males could attain a maximum size of 15 cm, females smaller. There are three different races known of this cichlid; one blue, one golden yellow and one yellow/white. Furthermore several different geographical varieties of these races occur. Common for all varieties are the black vertical stripes.
Food
A fish and snail eater, it is therefore best fed with shrimp mix and mysis
Aquarium
At least 600 litres.
Habitat
Found in shallow water in the intermediate zone.
Breeding
A substrate breeder, the blue variety has never been successfully bred in aquarium.
General
Neolamprologus sexfasciatus is aggressive and should be kept with other equal cichlids. Never keep more than one pair in the aquarium.
Distribution
Occurs in the southern part of the lake between Cape Tembwe and Karema.
