Trade names and synonyms
Pseudotropheus zebra, Maylandia zebra, Red top zebra, Malawi zebra.

Size
The maximum length lies around 12-13 cm (5 in.).

Food
Shrimp mix.

Aquarium
300 litres (65 gal.) and above.

Habitat
Rocky habitats near the shoreline. In this habitat it is a common cichlid.

Breeding
This mbuna is easy to spawn.

General
Metriaclima zebra was one of the first cichlids that were exported from the Lake Malawi. Those first exports were caught in the Cape Mclear-area in the southern part of the lake.

Distribution
Found around the entire lake in many different geographical colourations. My personal favourite is the ”red top” variant found around the Nakantenga Island.
