Melanochromis johanni male.

Size
A maximum size of around 10-12 cm (4-4.5 in.).

Food
Shrimp mix.

Aquarium
300 litres (70 gal.) and above.

Habitat
Found in the intermediate zone between rocky and sandy floors.

Breeding
Like most other mbunas it is easy to spawn.

General
It's easy to see the difference between the sexes, the male has got light/dark-blue stripes along the sides of the body (see picture below) while the female is orange/yellow over the entire body.
This species is close related to Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos, therefore they should not be kept in the same aquarium.

Distribution
Melanochromis johannii is found between Chuanga and Makanjila Point in the southeast part of the lake.
