Trade names and synonyms
Neolamprologus brevis, Neolamprologus calliurus, Lamprologus calliurus, Lamprologus taeniurus.
Size
Can reach a length of 4-5 cm (1.5 in.), females smaller.
Food
Shrimpmix, cyklops and brine shrimps.
Aquarium
From about 75 litres (16 gal.) and above. Arranged with fine sand and lots of empty shells from the Neothauma-snail or some other equivalent shells.
Habitat
<Lamprologus> brevis occurs all over the Lake Tanganyika where there are sandy floors coverd by empty shells from the Neothauma-snail.
Breeding
This cichlid is rather easy to spawn, it is spawning in empty snail shells.
The female nurses the fry's in the snail shell while the male guards the territory around the shell.
General
<Lamprologus> brevis is a rather big shell dweller.
This is a nice cichlid with an interesting behaviour, which could be kept in small aquariums.
This cichlid that fits well in a community aquarium with other tanganyika cichlids.
Distribution
Found in many locations around the Lake Tanganyika.
