Trade names and synonyms
Yellow Julidochromis, Golden Julidochromis.
Size
Maximum size 9 cm, females a bit smaller.
Food
The natural feed consists of different kind of small invertebrates.
Examples of good food in aquarium is shrimp mix, cyclops and brine shrimps.
Aquarium
Minimum 15 litres, arranged with lots of rockwork and hiding places.
Habitat
Occurs in the rocky habitat and in the intermediate zone.
Breeding
A substrate spawner which is easy to spawn.
The best way to spawn it is in a separate breeding aquarium with only one pair.
General
Julidochromis ornatus is rather aggressive against equals and needs a tank arranged with many caves and hiding-places.
All Julidochromis species are sensitive against too big water changes, well established breeding-pairs can split up.
Because of that you should change a small amount of water regularly, about 10-15% of the quantity each time.
Distribution
Found all around the Lake Tanganyika in different geographical variants.
