Trade names and synonyms
Red top afra, White top afra, Yellow blaze afra, Yellow bee, Mbamba black afra, Edwardi-type afra, Eduardi-type afra, Hemichromis afer, Paratilapia afra, Cynotilapia chimata.
Size
7-9 cm (2.5-3.5 in.).
Food
Shrimpmix and newhatched brine shrimps.
Aquarium
At least 300 litres (65 gal.).
Habitat
Represented in almost all rocky habitats.
Breeding
You should have at least 3 females per male, more than one male is also to prefer. This is spreading the attention from the dominant male on several individs. If you fulfil this conditions it's easy to spawn this mbuna.
General
Cynotilapia afra is best kept together with other mbunas. Dominant males could be rather violently. The appearance of the males are extremly various between the different populations.
Distribution
Found around Likoma and Chizumulu Islands, also along the entire northwest lakeshore to Ngara in the south. At the east coast from Makanjila Point to Chuanga, around Thumbi Point, and between Lumbaulo and Ikombe.
